WASHINGTON, D.C. — Next City reported on November mayoral races in three cities — Austin, Texas; San Jose, Calif.; and Washington, D.C. — whose results will influence major public transportation projects.
In Austin, three of five candidates support a contentious referendum that would create $600 million to build a light rail line. Meanwhile in Washington, D.C., the incumbent mayor, who fiercely supported an eventual 37-mile streetcar line, lost his re-election bid in an April primary, while two mayoral candidates in San Jose list transportation and infrastructure as key elements to their campaign.
