ARRA to fund SEPTA station expansion

Adding to parking facilities at the Elwyn Regional Rail Station. The project, which consists of concrete work, grading, signage, electrical and paving, will create approximately 30 jobs for area workers.

SEPTA investigating railroad car fire

The engineer reported heavy smoke aboard the train, and a full evacuation was immediately ordered. Within minutes of the safe evacuation of all passengers and the train crew, the lead car was fully engulfed in flames. A nearby Regional Rail train adjacent to the one on fire was also safely evacuated.

ARRA to fund two SEPTA station renovations

The $25 million project represents the first modernization for the Girard and Spring Garden stations since original construction in the late 1920s. Improvements include new elevators, stairs, lighting, signage and fire alarm systems.

The program focuses on the "4 Cs" -- communications, cleanliness, courtesy and convenience -- and the outreach campaign includes posters, carcards and flyers with general tips for good riding manners.

SEPTA receives $4.5M in ARRA security funds

Will cover the salaries, equipment and related expenses for 12 new police officers. This will increase the number of law enforcement officers in the SEPTA Transit Police Department from 256 to 268.
