After several mayoral candidates indicate that, if elected, they would look at privatizing the Toronto Transit Commission to cut costs, a local report examines Sweden’s privatized transit system.

The contract includes mobile data terminals and backup cameras on 110 new paratransit vehicles.

The "Transit City Bus Plan" is a long-term plan, with implementation over the next five years and beyond, adding an additional eight million trips per year.

Commission and Toronto Police Service will discuss safest way to board and exit streetcars, stroller safety, and some of the unsafe behaviors motorists practice, and the impact on passengers.

Contract represents the largest single order ever for light rail vehicles worldwide. Final assembly of the new vehicles will take place at production facilities in Thunder Bay, Ontario.

Starting in July, all passes sold by the TTC and its authorized agents will carry a custom-designed hologram that is unique to the TTC.

Thirty-six additional officers will assist with traffic, safety and security.

The firm will provide program management and project management services to the TTC for Toronto’s Transit City Light Rail Plan.

Parking fees will be announced early next year, with payment options of either cash or credit card.

Customers will be able to find out when their next bus or streetcar will arrive by information displayed on screens in subway stations or at select TTC stops.
