Will provide consultation on extension project.

ARTICLE TOOLS

The Sacramento Regional Transit District (RT) has selected Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam Inc. (LAN) as the prime consultant for the light rail extension (Phase II) of its south corridor.

The project consists of a 4.3-mile light rail, double-track extension. Four proposed stations will be situated along the corridor, which is the fastest-growing section of Sacramento County. The project will provide connectivity from the southeastern section of the city to downtown and also throughout the city by connecting to the existing rail network.

LAN will be responsible for overall management of the project, rail horizontal and vertical geometry plans, project controls, track and station grading and drainage, and agency coordination. LAN also will provide extensive coordination with RT's systems, structural and station contracts.

The project has an estimated construction cost of $226 million. RT is seeking funding participation from the Federal Transit Administration (FTA), through their New Starts program. Construction is expected to start in the last quarter of 2009, with revenue service anticipated to begin in 2011.
