Automated People Mover (APM) system at San Francisco International Airport

Bombardier Transportation has signed an eight-year contract with the City and County of San Francisco to operate and maintain the automated people mover (APM) system at San Francisco (SFO) International Airport.

The contract is valued at approximately $101 million.

Bombardier has operated and maintained the APM system, known as SFO AirTrain, since it opened to passenger service in 2003. Using the Bombardier CX-100 technology, the two-line APM system operates 24 hours a day, consistently surpassing the contract availability of 99.5 percent.

The AirTrain fleet of 38 CX-100 vehicles serves nine stations along six miles of elevated guideway and connects all the airport’s terminals, parking garages and the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) Station with the rental car center.
