MTA Staten Island Railway taps Emcom

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s Staten Island Railway selected Emcom Systems’ voice over Internet protocol-based (VoIP) Em Vista Central solution, with its IP6000 hands-free phones, to improve communications throughout the rail system.

Twenty-two hands-free, ADA compliant phones will be installed at each stop and communicate with the EmVista Central system at St. George via an IP network, enabling operators to initiate, receive and monitor calls for any type of situation.

The IP6000 phones incorporate Digital Signal Processing technology that can correct noise or echoing. When a call button is pressed, EmVista Central alerts video control and provides an IP audio feed to archive the audio/video feed.

The system also provides comprehensive drag-and-drop features that can allow agents to answer quickly, place outgoing calls to any phone or even connect calls to other resources such as emergency responders. Future expansions can provide public address and radio connection capabilities.

The MTA Staten Island Railway carries more than 15,000 passengers each day.
