Alstom to supply French rail
Contract includes a firm part worth $1 billion for the delivery of 100 Coradia Polyvalent trainsets to eight French regions. The total volume may eventually reach 1,000 train sets up to 2021, for an amount of approximately $10 billion.
SNCF, the national French operator, has awarded Alstom Transport the market of the new generation of single-deck regional trains to modernize and increase the national fleet over the period of 2013 to 2021.
The contract includes a firm part worth $1 billion for the delivery of 100 Coradia Polyvalent trainsets to eight French regions. The total volume may eventually reach 1,000 train sets up to 2021, for an amount of approximately $10 billion.
The Coradia Polyvalent is a single-decker regional train that offers several technical configurations along with modular fittings for passengers. The train can travel at a speed of 99 miles per hour, in both its electric and hybrid versions and at two different voltages (25kV and 1,500 V).
The train car also features a low floor, motor bogies to reduce vibrations and noise levels, and is made of eco-friendly materials. It is also equipped with more compact and efficient magnet motors, which sustain less energy loss than traditional electric motors.
The deliveries of the first 100 trains are planned from 2013 and will be completed in 2015.
