HMM providing construction mgmt. for MNR project

ARTICLE TOOLS

Hatch Mott MacDonald (HMM) is providing construction management services for Metro-North Railroad (MNR) for an $18.9 million design/build project at Grand Central Terminal in Manhattan.

The project will convert an interior space from its previous use as a tennis club, to facilities for MNR train crews, fire brigade crews and building services staff. The current facilities for the train and fire brigade crews and building services staff have outlived their useful life and are in need of substantial upgrade; this project will relocate the crews and staff members to a better location with updated accommodations.

Part of the construction, which HMM is managing, is removal of a portion of Grand Central Terminal's Monumental Window on the southwest corner of the building. Removal of the window will allow for worker access and a path to supply material to the project site. This was anticipated by MNR, who received early approval of this concept from the State Historic Preservation Office in New York. The window is to be carefully removed, labeled, documented and stored off site; it is to be re-installed at the end of the project.

HMM will be assisted by two sub-consultants — Hill International Inc., and A.G. Consulting Engineering, P.C.
