Pierce Transit initiative rejected by voters

SEATTLE — Proposition 1 in Pierce County was rejected by voters this election season, meaning that Pierce Transit's service area will soon experience a 53% reduction in services. The proposition would have increased sales tax by three-tenths of one percent, reported the Seattle Weekly.

The poor, elderly and disabled will be most affected by the cuts, as 50% of Pierce Transit's ridership has a yearly household income of $20,000 or less. Pierce Transit could be forced to eliminate all weekend service and service past 7 p.m. To read the full story, click here.
