OAKLAND, Calif. — With uncertainty surrounding the Bay Area Rapid Transit District’s (BART) labor situation and AC Transit’s “cooling-off period” coming to a close, a San Jose Mercury News story discussed how disabled passengers are disproportionately affected by public transit shutdowns.
AC Transit workers were two days from walking off the job before Gov. Jerry Brown ordered a 60-day cooling-off period, with a strike possible as soon as December 22. Another BART strike conceivably could happen any time in the wake of a decision by the agency's board to dispute the family leave clause in a tentative agreement with its two unions.
