Union: TTC cell phone crackdown unreasonable

Toronto Transit Commission management is firing operators for using their cell phones even when they aren’t driving, claims the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 113 president. Agency officials say they are just notifying employees about cell phone usage rules.

A new six-station gondola line set to debut this month, will feature 152 gondolas and carry 30,000 people a day along a 2.1-mile route — transforming an hour-and-a-half trip to a nearby commuter rail station into a 16-minute sky ride.

Bargaining cuts could cost Ohio, Wis. transit funds

Proposals in both states to reduce the collective bargaining rights of transit workers could put federal funding in jeopardy. By law, the FTA cannot fund transit without Department of Labor certification that the collective bargaining rights of affected transit employees have not been diminished.
