Advertising is again the most-used method of generating revenue (81%). Forty-one percent raised fares, while 33% tapped public-private partnerships to bolster their coffers.
Forty percent cite these factors as their top daily obstacles. Meanwhile, ridership continues to rise, with two-thirds of operators reporting increases.
While many operators cited receiving plenty of political and community support, they reported contending with difficulties in coordination with other jurisdictions, Departments of Transportation, transit agencies and city staff.
Second annual Bus Maintenance Survey finds that many agencies around the nation are experiencing difficulties with alternative propulsion, as they continue to add new equipment in the shop to service as well as learn new ways to make repairs to the vehicles. Meanwhile parts issues, including concerns about availability, lead times and frequent failures, remains the biggest issue.
