TriMet Twitter town hall to tackle budget

Event, to be hosted by GM Neil McFarlane, is part of a comprehensive outreach effort to hear from the public on the agency's FY 2013 budget which includes a $12 to $17 million shortfall. An interactive guide will let the community weigh in on potential fare increases and service cuts to help close the budget gap.

Will use the Twitter account to communicate with those interested in its investigative work and advocacy programs to enhance transportation safety. The YouTube channel will be a one-stop resource where the NTSB's advocacy video messages, transportation accident animations and other video products can be accessed.

Twitter largely untapped by campus bus services

One exception is Auburn University’s Tiger Transit in Auburn, Ala., which uses Twitter to inform student riders about issues with the transit system, such as route delays, temporary stop relocations and when the transit system itself has to be temporarily shut down.

Information about Metro, upcoming events like scheduled track work and YouTube videos are posted on the page. RSS feeds show real-time information about Metrorail and Metrobus service disruptions.
