The Maryland Transit Administration has released an ambitious transportation plan that would add 66 miles of rail lines or bus rapid transit (BRT) lanes to the Baltimore area. According to the Baltimore Sun, construction on these new transit lines could begin as early as 2008 if the plan is adopted. One of the planned routes, called the Red Line, spans 12 miles and could be heavy rail, light rail or BRT. Another, the Green Line, is a 4 1/2-mile extension of the Metro subway.
