Mobis Transportation/Bikestation signed an agreement Friday with the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) for the licensing of the Bikestation name and administration of all membership and access control of the new Bikestation Washington, D.C.

The new flagship bicycle transit facility, which occupies prime real estate at Union Station just blocks from the Capitol, was designed, planned and executed in a public/private agreement between Mobis Transportation/Bikestation and DDOT.

Under terms of the new agreement, Mobis Transportation/Bikestation will administer the membership and proprietary access control systems of the transit facility permitting members secure bicycle parking at the Bikestation 24 hours a day, seven days a week through an electronic key. This key will also provide members access to other Bikestations around the country.

Other services of the Bikestation, including daily staffing, bicycle repair, retail sales and bike rental will be provided in partnership with Bike and Roll Washington D.C., local entity of a national bike rental and tour company with operations in five major cities in the U.S.

Bikestation Washington, D.C. opens Oct. 2.
