Connecticut's CTTRANSIT and the union representing some 750 bus drivers and hourly-rated maintenance employees in Hartford, New Haven and Stamford agreed to an extension of the current collective bargaining agreement through Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2011, the agency announced.

The extension will allow time for management to consider a union counter-proposal that was offered on Wednesday and, also, for the parties to discuss binding arbitration as an alternative.

The extension agreement averts a possible strike by CTTRANSIT employees in the Hartford, New Haven and Stamford divisions that could have occurred at midnight on Dec. 31, 2010.
