S.F. MTA taps creative options to close deficit

SAN FRANCISCO — To tackle massive budget deficits, the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Authority may ask city voters to raise vehicle registration fees, charge households for a "transportation utility fee," raise parcel and sales taxes, or hike off-street parking rates, reported The Examiner. The agency must generate an additional $50 million a year and cut expenditures by $30 million to provide for salaries and benefits, which are growing faster than revenues.
