York Transit strike averted

Posted on February 22, 2011

RICHMOND HILL, ONTARIO — A bus strike that could have impacted York Region Transit (YRT) customers was called off, pending a second vote on a settlement that was rejected last week, according to CBC News. About 214 workers were due to walk out on Tuesday morning in YRT's southwest division after talks between Amalgamated Transit Union Local 113 and Veolia Transportation Services Canada broke down.

The strike would have affected 24 bus routes operating primarily in Vaughan, and some routes in the towns of Richmond Hill, Newmarket, Aurora and Markham and the Township of King. For the full story, click here.
