PHILADELPHIA — With bus driver assaults on the rise, many transit agencies are installing shields to protect drivers. While transit agencies in several U.S. cities, such as New York City and Chicago, have installed or are testing shields on their vehicles, Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority officials and leaders of the drivers' union are skeptical that the shields provide enough protection to offset drivers' concerns about comfort and the ability to exit quickly in an emergency, according to a Philly.com report.
