MINNEAPOLIS — To make ends meet, Metro Transit employed fewer bus drivers and provided overtime as a cheaper way to maintain service, Pioneer Press reported. Due to staffing reductions, driver overtime jumped 52% from 2008 to 2010.
In 2010, the transit system spent more than $8.5 million on overtime. A Pioneer Press analysis of recent compensation data found that about 5% of the drivers averaged 50 to 70 hours of work per week. For the full story, click here.
