BOSTON — A Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) proposal to help erase a projected $161 million deficit could raise subway fares, dramatically cull bus routes, eliminate ferries and end weekend commuter rail service, according to the Boston Globe.

MBTA officials stressed that details could change after a string of public hearings through February, however, after five-and-a-half years of staving off fare increases and maintaining or increasing services, they said change appears inevitable. For the full story, click here.
