Intercity bus system faces overhaul in Manitoba

WINNIPEG, Manitoba — The Canadian province is easing its regulatory grip on intercity bus transportation, with plans to institute a more "flexible" system July 1 that could allow competition on certain bus routes and give smaller carriers and community groups the opportunity to provide service on lines no longer operated by Greyhound, reported the Winnipeg Free Press.

More details on the new system will be released over the next few months. The government intends to introduce enabling legislation this spring.
