VANCOUVER, B.C. — Members of the union representing B.C. Transit bus drivers, tradespeople and maintenance workers voted 98% in favor of a strike to support their demands for a fair collective agreement, The Vancouver Sun reported.

The Canadian Auto Workers Local 333 and the agency need to come to agreement on issues such as wages and contracting and haven’t had a collective agreement since March 31. The union has been working under a wage freeze for two years. However, the union has 90 days after a strike vote to serve notice, and a transit official said that strike votes are a common occurrence before settlements between the two sides.
