N.C. town council deadlocks over bus ads

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — The Chapel Hill town council deadlocked on a vote Monday to endorse a controversial bus ad policy, meaning that a freeze on bus ads will remain in place through November, reports Chapelboro.com.

The town’s official policy, adopted in 2011, specifically bans religious or political advertising — but it has not been properly enforced. Twenty speakers came before the council on Monday night to address the policy, and three quarters of those spoke in favor of permitting religious and political ads on public transit.
