Bus and coach manufacturer Alexander Dennis Limited (ADL) was announced as winner of a Board of Trade Award, which recognizes companies for their excellence in international trade, demonstrating innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurialism.

Recipients were nominated and selected by the Department for International Trade, with the awards presented at a gala in Stirling, Scotland by Dr. Liam Fox, Secretary of State for International Trade and President of the Board of Trade.

Building on its market-leading position in the United Kingdom, ADL has successfully exported its expertise in double-deck and lightweight bus technology. The company’s international revenues have grown seven-fold since 2007 and now account for close to 50% of ADL’s business.

ADL has used its success in Hong Kong to springboard to other markets in the Asia-Pacific region including Singapore, New Zealand, and Malaysia. In the U.S., and Canada, ADL has sold 1,000 double-deck buses and is focusing on growing this further with locally manufactured double- and single-deck vehicles. Earlier this year, 90 double-deck buses entered service in Mexico City as part a landmark Latin American deal that was supported by the Government’s UK Export Finance agency. A launch order from Switzerland has generated additional interest in continental Europe for ADL to explore.
