Pa. moves toward consolidating transit

Gov. Tom Corbett’s 2013 budget proposal would provide an extra $1.8 billion a year for transportation statewide, but requires transit agencies to complete consolidation studies with neighboring agencies to gain a share of the funds.

Plans for the Central Loop East-West Transit Corridor include designated bus-priority lanes on two miles of streets The Loop BRT corridor will serve Union Station, Ogilvie Transportation Center, CTA subways and Navy Pier with more than 1,700 buses per day, making it one of the busiest bus routes in the nation. Expected to start service in 2014.

Critics question NJ Transit’s on-time claims

Transit advocates and commuters questioned the agency’s claim of a 91% on-time rate for November, when Superstorm Sandy impacted the coast line for weeks, putting many trains out of operation. The system is also facing criticism over how it calculated its 96% on-time record for last year.

Md. to start building long-delayed transit center

Montgomery County transportation officials are moving forward with plans to build a $31 million transit center in one of the region’s busiest bus-only transfer points. The project was delayed for years while the state negotiated the acquisition of the land needed to build the facility.
