APTA names Bus Safety & Security Award winners

Safety awards went to Monterey-Salinas Transit of Monterey, Calif; San Antonio, Texas-based VIA Metropolitan Transit and Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority. Pierce Transit of Lakewood, Wash. and New York City Transit took home security awards.

New Flyer, Alexander Dennis team to offer ‘midi bus’

Will collaborate to introduce a North American medium-duty low-floor bus (or “midi bus”) specifically developed and tested to a 10-year operational life. New Flyer is responsible for sales, marketing, manufacturing and aftermarket support. Alexander Dennis will engineer, test and develop the prototype.

REI unveils new DVR products, software

The HD400 and HD800 DVRs provide the ability to update the hardware operating system using the USB drive and stores more video, audio and vehicle data on the SD card or hard drive. A new version of the BUS-WATCH viewing software, A.R.M.O.R.-VMS, includes features such as license plate capture, integrated Google mapping technology and increased recording/storage space.

Allegheny Port Authority may hike fares, cut service

Prompted by a $64 million deficit projected for the Fiscal Year 2013 operating budget. The fare increase would go into effect on July 1 and the service reduction would go into effect September 2. About 46 routes would be eliminated with service scaled back on all remaining routes. The ACCESS paratransit program would see deep cuts.
