FHWA provides $215M for road, bridge repairs

The money will reimburse states for fixing or replacing highways, bridges and other roadway structures. Costs associated with detours, debris removal and other immediate measures necessary to restore traffic flow in impacted areas are also eligible.

U. of Vermont waives CarShare member fee

Campus transportation group is waiving the CarShare Vermont membership fee for 200 full-time University of Vermont students, staff and faculty. The service supports the public transportation infrastructure and has reduced the overall number of cars on campus.

U. of Missouri student, city leaders spar on transit fee hike

A student representing the city’s Transit System Task Force claims that city leaders used threats to encourage the task force to accept a proposal to raise fees on college students to help fund Columbia Transit. If a fee increase isn’t approved, the city may be forced to cut $1 million from the bus system, resulting in eliminating routes that serve students.

U. of Ottawa students urged to accept fare hike

Despite appeals and a presentation from University of Ottawa students, the OC Transpo Transit Commission refused to change the $35-per-semester fee increase to its U-pass. Students dispute the transit system’s calculations, which set the new revenue-neutral price.

Metro price hike may impact Ariz. State students, staff

Although university officials said they have not heard anything about a raise in fares yet, they are fearful that a raise in cost would result in fewer student purchases as it has in the past. The student U-Pass, which allows unlimited access to the light rail and Valley Metro's bus service, saw an increase from $80 to $150 for the 2011-2012 academic year.

L.A. Metro opens bike center

Two ground-floor bike center locations in the Santa Monica Place Mall parking structure combined feature nearly 5,300 square-feet of dedicated space and nearly 360 secure bicycle parking spaces, making it the highest capacity secure bicycle parking facility in the U.S.

Conn. BRT project awarded $275M

FTA Administrator Peter Rogoff signed the full-funding grant agreement during a ceremony at Central Connecticut State University in New Britain. The grant clears the way for the Connecticut DOT to begin construction of the bus rapid transit system and covers about half the total cost of the $567 million project.
