Heavy-duty vehicle fuel efficiency standards unveiled

Under the new national program, buses and trucks built in 2014 through 2018 will reduce oil consumption by a projected 530 million barrels and greenhouse gas pollution by approximately 270 million metric tons. The standards are expected to yield an estimated $50 billion in net benefits over the life of model year 2014 to 2018 vehicles.

For many years, the SP Technical Research Institute of Sweden has been at the forefront of research on improving bus fire safety. The organization has an ongoing project with the intention of creating an international standard for fire suppression systems in engine compartments of buses and coaches.
