AC Transit, SPX upgrade fare collection system

The transit system refitted all 569 of its buses with SPX Genfare’s Fast Fare fareboxes. The “talking” fareboxes interact with passengers using full-color, lighted displays and automatic audio responses, and replace the agency’s more bulky, 14-year old fare collection boxes.

AC Transit, union reach agreement

Heads off a threatened strike that that had been twice averted. Provides for a wage increase of 9.5% that will be phased in over the three years of the contract. The agency and union also agreed on a flat monthly contribution of $120 per employee during the life of the contract.

Gov. Jerry Brown called for a strike delay for AC Transit, which will thwart a walkout by bus operators and mechanics. Meanwhile, union officials called off a scheduled strike Wednesday evening and trains are running on schedule.

New AC Transit bus first to cross renovated Bay Bridge

The agency commissioned one of its freshly acquired “Better Ride” New Flyer 2200 series, 60-foot coaches for the opening festivities. In all, five other AC Transit bus operators drove coaches as part of the opening ceremonies to commemorate the new Bay Bridge.
