Transit Police have the ability to track a rider’s past 10 “taps” using hand-held units to check if cards are stolen, expired, have a valid tap-in and contain a valid fare.
The cost of the new system is approximately $2.8 million and is being funded through $2.25 million in SAFETEA-LU grant monies from Sen. Charles E. Schumer (D-NY), along with 10 percent matches provided by both Syracuse University and the New York State DOT.
School also has approval to launch year-round, weekday service to Rochester with stops in Barrington and Lee. The bulk of the money for both projects will come from the federal transportation department.
