Jeffrey Runge, a specialist in emergency medicine, has been tabbed by President Bush as administrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). If confirmed by the Senate, Runge would become the fourth physician to serve as NHTSA's top official. Currently, Runge is assistant chairman of emergency medicine at the Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, N.C.
