In response to the global economic slow-down, Blue Bird Corp. in Macon, Ga., laid off approximately 200 employees at four manufacturing plants—Fort Valley, Ga.; Lafayette, Ga.; Mt. Pleasant, Iowa; and Branford, Ontario. The workforce reduction represents about 5% of the company’s 3,600 employees. Blue Bird officials said the layoffs were not tied to any particular division. In addition to commercial buses, the company manufactures school buses and luxury motorhomes.
