Laidlaw Inc. is seeking protection from its creditors and has filed petitions for reorganization under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code. The company has struggled under mounting debt loads brought on by disastrous investments in U.S. ambulance and hazardous waste disposal industries. Company officials emphasized that its intercity bus operation - Greyhound Lines Inc. - and its school bus division - Laidlaw Education Services - are not part of the bankruptcy filing. "We believe these actions will have no meaningful impact on our operations," said a Laidlaw spokesperson. For more information, go to www.laidlaw.com.
