The Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County (Houston Metro) will receive 49 additional MCI coaches for is park-and-ride express commuter service. This transaction follows Metro's initial March 2001 contract for 90 MCI D4500 commuter coaches. The 49 additional vehicles are scheduled for delivery in October and November 2002. Ridership on Metro's park-and-ride routes has increased by more than 11% in fiscal year 2001. The Metro now operates 25 park-and-ride facilities, some with lots accommodating 1,000 to 2,500 cars. Plans for three more, to be built by 2004, are in the works.
