Cummins Inc. announced the submission of its 5.9 liter ISB engine for certification to the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) 2.5-gram NOx+NMHC standard. To meet the EPA emissions standard, a cooled exhaust gas recirculation subsystem was added to the ISB engine. The new ISB offers as much as 2% improvement in fuel economy with 15,000-mile oil change intervals still standard. Production will begin upon receipt of the certification, which is expected early this summer.
