A group of national unions, environmental organizations and transit associations have formed, Transit Vote 2002, a coalition to register transit riders at transit hubs, transfer stations, bus stops and ticket offices in 11 states. On September 18, Transit Vote Day registration will take place in several cities, including Denver, Chicago, Philadelphia, Silver Spring (Md.), Kansas City (Mo.) and in cities throughout New Jersey. "Registering transit riders to vote at transit sites throughout the country is a convenient way to enhance the voting power of public transportation riders," said American Public Transportation Association President William Millar. Additional cities, including Tucson, Miami, New York, Dallas and St. Louis, will host Transit Vote activities on other days.
