The American Public Transportation Association (APTA) called on U.S. businesses to provide transit benefits to all of their employees. Under a federal tax law, employers can provide up to $100 per month in tax-free benefits to employees who ride public transportation to work. The program saves employees up to $1,200 per year, and employers save on payroll taxes. "Public transit plays a critical role in getting people to work and reducing congestion," said APTA President William Millar. "The more people who ride, the better our quality of life." For more information on the transit commute benefit, go to www.apta.com or www.commuterchoice.com.
