The American Public Transportation Association (APTA) called on U.S. businesses to provide transit benefits to all of their employees.
Under a federal tax law, employers can provide up to $100 per month in tax-free benefits to employees who ride public transportation to work. The program saves employees up to $1,200 per year, and employers save on payroll taxes.
"Public transit plays a critical role in getting people to work and reducing congestion," said APTA President William Millar. "The more people who ride, the better our quality of life."
