San Diego Transit Corp. announced its intent to award a contract worth approximately $111.5 million to North American Bus Industries (NABI) for 111 new 40-foot and 35-foot low-floor buses powered by compressed natural gas (CNG). Following a board vote on the recommendation and usual audits leading to the contract award, NABI expects that a notice to proceed will be issued in January 2003. Delivery of the base order of buses would occur throughout 2004. The San Diego contract, when executed, also contains options for additional buses including up to 40 Model 35-LFWs and up to 148 Model 40-LFWs, also powered by CNG.
