New York Transit Authority slashed hundreds of jobs Monday in a cost-cutting move that will save the agency $46 million, reported the New York Post. The TA, which runs city buses and subways, will eliminate 468 jobs through attrition over the next two years. Protesters accused the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, the TA's parent agency, of reneging on a promise not to cut service after last March's 50-cent fare hike, said the Post. Watchdog groups said the cuts would lead to more crime and dirtier trains.
