The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) must put 145 new buses into service by the end of the year, a federal judge has ruled. The MTA had challenged the terms of a federal consent decree, asking that it be allowed to bolster its service levels through more efficient management of its fleet. But the judge rejected that proposal and ordered the agency to put the new buses into service. MTA officials said they have 300 buses on order, including 100 45-foot buses and 200 60-foot articulated buses.
