Kansas City Area Transportation Authority (KCATA) was awarded a $7.4 million grant from the Federal Transit Administration for a bus rapid transit (BRT) system and replacement buses. The grant will be applied towards construction of a 9.7-mile BRT system in downtown Kansas City, which will operate on existing streets and include ITS enhancements such as signal priority at intersections and real time notification of bus arrivals. KCATA will also use the funding to purchase of 33 replacement buses for the current system.
