Voters nationwide approved a record number of ballot initiatives that will fund transit.

According to the Center for Transportation Excellence, 22 initiatives with public transportation funding were approved on Election Day, representing an estimated total of more than $40 billion.

Added to the 18 already approved this year, a total of 40 initiatives (out of a possible 50) have passed so far in 2004.
