Charlotte (N.C.) Area Transit System (CATS) recently contracted with a team of consulting firms to form a conceptual design for a modern streetcar line.

As part of CATS’ 2025 transportation plan, the line will serve the city’s primary employment center, Center City Charlotte.

The streetcar line will feature steel-wheeled modern streetcars powered by overhead catenary wires and could include two extensions.

The initial segment of the line is expected to be completed by 2009.
