U.S. Transportation Secretary Norman Y. Mineta will maintain his post during President Bush's second term, the White House said Thursday. Although Mineta will stay on, Deputy Transportation Secretary Kirk Van Tine submitted his resignation, effective Dec. 31. Mineta told his top aides Monday that Van Tine is returning to the private sector. Bush named Van Tine acting deputy secretary last December, then made the appointment permanent in May.
