The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) has committed a $587 million full funding grant agreement to the Valley Metro Light Rail project in Phoenix.

More than 300 community leaders and rail supporters attended a celebration last week presided by FTA Administrator Jenna Dorn, who announced the funding for the 20-mile line.

“I've been waiting for this day for a long time,” said U.S. Rep. Ed Pastor, D-Ariz. “With this federal partnership, we can confidently move forward in building the first significant leg of the project, knowing that we are addressing transit needs for our residents.”
