Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and state legislative leaders have declared that tackling transportation issues would be the government’s number one priority in 2006.

The governor and the legislature's top four leaders met for about 90 minutes in Schwarzenegger's office this week, discussing how to solve some of the state's top problems next year, particularly easing traffic congestion.

According to the Associated Press, the state has been trying to put together a $10 billion bond measure to pay for a variety of transportation-related projects, but it isn’t expected to pass the Legislature this year.
