DaimlerChrysler Commercial Buses won a contract with the New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) to supply 500 Orion VII hybrid-electric transit buses.

The order, which represents the largest ever for the Orion VII, will send 216 buses to New York City Transit, with the remaining 284 going to the MTA.

MTA officials said last month that the order would be for 389 buses at a cost of $208 million. No cost was released for the different-sized order announced today.

Deliveries will begin in the second quarter of 2006.
