Magnetic Specialties of Telford, Pa., has signed a contract with the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) to rebuild 10 motor smoothing reactors for light rail trolley cars.

The reactors were originally built in 1980 by Westinghouse Electric Corp. to fit underneath the hull of SEPTA’s trolleys. Since then, natural elements have eaten away at the metals.

It had been 13 years since Philadelphians could ride a trolley, but after an $82 million contract, SEPTA has reintroduced trolley service.
