The Minnesota Valley Transit Authority (MVTA) experienced record ridership in 2005, breaking the 2 million mark for the first time in the agency’s history.

The MVTA, which provides transit services for the communities of Apple Valley, Burnsville, Eagan, Rosemount and Savage, had a total ridership of 2,118,251, about 8% over 2004.

MVTA officials attribute the increase to higher gasoline prices and the completion of Minneapolis’s Hiawatha light rail, which has encouraged people to use connecting services.
